Meet Svetlana, Our Founder
It all started in her own kitchen. Born in Ukraine and raised on home-cooked meals, Svetlana (“Lana”) brought this same sensibility to America while raising her own children.
Seeing a major problem in youth health and nutrition, she decided to take action. Lana started “Les Petit Chefs” in 2011 and operated under the principle of “eat the rainbow,” leading to a new name—Rainbow Chefs. San Mateo School District contacted Lana in 2012, which led to the creation of enrichment programs and instructor training.
She also began working with the Highlands Recreation Center in 2012, and, at the request of parents, created summer camps and chefs parties. Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) and other organizations became involved as Rainbow Chefs expanded. By 2019, Rainbow Chefs had reached over 30,000 children and 1,800 schools with curriculums extending into middle and high school.
With a vision of changing K-12 education through Common Core State Standards (CCSS), NGSS, NHES, CASEL, STEAM/STEM, and CTE alignment, Rainbow Chefs became Rainbow Chefs Academy. Lana continues to lead the company in its quest to improve the wellness of society and offset childhood obesity and diabetes.
